Good news for those living in rural or remote areas as satellite broadband provider, Eutelsat has made an official announcement – the first patch of its KA-SAT powered internet services is now available and ready for grabs.
The ISP is offering speeds of up to 10Mbps (with 4Mbps uploads) and it is thought that satellite broadband providers such as Broadband Wherever and AVOnline will follow suit.
The satellite has been successfully in its orbit since December last year and will be able to provide broadband to as many as 1m consumers.

It has recently been said that BT Openreach is to pump up the price of its connection fee to £80 +VAT from the 1st of September 2011 which might slow down the rate at which consumers are currently subscribing to BT’s FTTC (fibre-to-the-cabinet) services.

It seems that eBay is not happy that prospective customers cannot shop properly on the go, which is why it asked telecoms authority, Ofcom, to make sure its auction of 800MHz and 2.6GHz radio spectrum fills in the gap in mobile broadband speeds.

Autumn next year is the deadline BT has set for itself to get the majority (90 per cent) of businesses based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly connected to its superfast broadband services, as a part of the £132m investment scheme.

Good news for Guernsey and Jersey as Jersey Telecom (JT Group) has recently revealed its latest partnership with Alcatel–Lucent to test LTE (Long-Term-Evolution) mobile broadband technology on the two Channel Islands.
The plan is a part of a wider strategy called Gigabit Isles which is to provide high speed broadband to the islanders who currently face slow internet connections.

It has recently been said that Android owners were not that keen to splash out on the Android app market.
According to the recent reports, most paid-for apps were downloaded as little as 100 times or less.
Analyst firm, Distimo revealed that while the majority of paid for apps (80 per cent) was downloaded have not scored popularity points, free apps are being gobbled up at a significantly higher rate, with only a fifth not being as popular.

No good news for South Derbyshire as it has recently been named as the second worst constituency in England for its measly internet speeds.
According to recent research conducted by the Labour Party, which studied the broadband situation throughout the country, more than a half (55.7 per cent) had to face broadband speeds which were less than average.

Orange’s parent company, France Telecom (FT) predicts some gloom for the broadband consumer as it warns that ISPs might have to raise prices for their services.
According to the General Secretary of the FT, the UK branch of which recently joined forces with T-Mobile and formed Everything Everywhere, consumers demand for data has been increasingly sharply and thus broadband providers must upgrade their infrastructure capabilities with investments.
