Google broadband, anyone?
You can come forward and say yes, if you live in the US. It was Kansas City (Missouri) where the product has been recently unveiled.
Interested parties can pre-register and expect the product hitting shelves in September. In addition, the firm confirmed that broadband will be rolled out in more US cities in due time, dependent on how successful it becomes, no doubt.
It is not only households that are going to benefit from speeds reportedly 100 times faster than those currently available in the country – Google is…

It is financial results day for O2 as well. Interestingly, the ISP (which is also the parent company of Be Broadband) has reported that its fixed line (home) broadband base fell significantly by 15,800 to now stand at 602,000.
Interestingly, Orange has reported that it had its subscriber base increase by 1,000 in the previous quarter.
Broadbandwatcher admits, a fall was expected but perhaps not that steep. It’s wise to assume that many factors contributed to this dip; it was a hard time for the ISP.
Some of…

Good news comes from Orange as it has at last managed to grow its fixed line (home) broadband side of the business last quarter.
As a quick reminder, at the moment Orange is a part of Everything Everywhere (T-Mobile being the other half), which concentrates mainly on mobile services.
In terms of stats, Orange’s Home Broadband branch has managed to attract 1,000 new customers, taking it from 713,000 to 714,000 subscribers.
Not a huge change, Broadbandwatcher hears you say. Perhaps not, but it sounds very healthy seeing as the ISP has remained…

Good news comes from Virgin Media as it officially hit one of its most anticipated targets – the one million TiVO customers milestone.
This means the company installed its digital television services in more than 250,000 homes during the second quarter of 2012.
Meanwhile, 1.3m homes are currently enjoying superfast broadband of 30Mbps and above. During Q2 Virgin Media added 459,800 new fibre broadband customers to its cable network.
Neil Berkett, CEO of Virgin Media, said:
“This has been a quarter of improved revenue and OCF growth. We are well placed to benefit…

Good news comes to movie fanatics who also are looking for a good broadband package seeing as TalkTalk has started offering the two – the film bit being completely free.
In more detail, the ISP started offering a free yearlong membership to Amazon’s LOVEFiLM service which is a library of content where users can instantly stream whatever they choose. Normally the service costs under a fiver per month.
Moreover, customers who already have LOVEFiLM accounts can still take advantage of the offer in the form of gift credit.
Customers who decide to…

It seems that Wales is on its way to getting the best internet services in the UK, seeing as the principality has invested a whopping £425m to blanket itself with broadband.
The plan is to supply superfast broadband of at least 25Mbps and more to 96 per cent and giving access to basic speeds of 2Mbps to the remainder.
Compared to the BDUK’s goals, this is a slightly higher target because the office intends to rollout superfast broadband to 90 per cent within every county of the UK rather than 96.
It…

One bidder equals to poor choice of broadband deals, says North Yorkshire.
It referred to the fact that BT was the only company keen on rolling out fibre, seeing as Fujitsu was slowly exiting the broadband deployment game in some areas.
Counties have been busy cooking up plans to blanket themselves with fibre optic internet which they then put forward for BDUK (Broadband Delivery UK) office’s approval hoping to get a slice of the £530m worth treasure chest.
It is wise to remember that after local authorities get an allocated sum of…

In this corner we have Virgin Media trying to ban Sky’s “totally unlimited broadband” ad … And in this corner we have Sky trying to ban Virgin Media’s TiVO ads.
ASA decided to uphold Sky’s claims, yet Virgin Media did not succeed to convince the regulator that Sky was misleading the public with its ad.
You might have noticed that Sky often says that it is offering “truly unlimited” services as it does not apply any FUP (Fair Usage Policy) nor does it impose any monthly usage caps. It applies the…

Time for some good business news.
O2 Wholesale has just penned papers with both Timico, which is a successful business broadband supplier, as well as QiComm, a telecommunications provider.
This will expand the list of services that the companies will be able to deliver.
Timico, for instance, who is no stranger to having partnerships with O2 in the past, will get the key to the door of Ethernet services as well as the possibility of basing its products on O2Wholesale’s unbundled broadband (LLU) network.
Meanwhile, QiComm will use it to expand its fixed,…

If you live in north Wales (UK), especially in Maldwyn’s Montgomeryshire, you have probably noticed that the broadband speeds you are receiving rarely are higher than basic speeds (2Mbps).
This is why Russell George, a Welsh Assembly Member, has decided to start a campaign also known as Speed Up Our Broadband in Montgomeryshire, which you can find here.
He seeks help from Montgomeryshire residents to find out where exactly the “broadband notspots” were. To do that, he is asking everyone to carry out an area-specific speed test…
