FTTC is of course very useful – it makes speeds of up to 80Mbps possible and generally makes the broadband experience much more pleasant. However, it can cause trouble as well.
There has been a complaint from a certain Midhurst resident who stated that the placement of a BT FTTC cabinet was troublesome seeing as it restricted pavement access for people with physical disabilities, for instance wheelchair users.
This is because rather unwittingly, the cabinet is located just outside of the complainant’s window. So much for spectacular views – BT’s FTTC…

While consumers may be excited about 4G services coming to the UK (Ofcom gave Everything Everywhere the go-ahead to make use of its 1,800MHz spectrum to rollout the next-gen mobile broadband), this happiness might be short-lived.
In order to make use of the 4G portable broadband, customers need to have compatible devices – tablets or smartphones – to be able to enjoy speedy internet.
Informa’s Telecoms and Media head analyst, Thomas Wehmeier, was quoted by PCPro.co.uk as stating:
“There are various frequencies being used around the world and a phone that works…

It seems that it’s not only Everything Everywhere that will launch 4G services in the UK – mobile operator, Three (3) might just join the fourth generation pack.
According to recent reports, the parent firm of Orange and T-Mobile agreed to sell off a chunk of its 4G approved spectrum to Three (3). This will potentially enable the mobile operator to offer much faster mobile broadband than the currently available 3G services.
Of course this is not a good deed moment from EE. The European Commisison has put forward a regulation…

Good news comes to households and businesses in South Yorkshire as reportedly thanks to business ISP Fluidata and Digital Region residents will be able to choose their perfect ISP from a total of 50.
Fluidata hopes that with the help of Digital Region (80 per cent coverage of South Yorkshire) it will be able to offer a fibre optic platform for competing broadband providers.
The business ISP operates its own network which gives local ISPs an alternative solution to making ends meet and investing in their own “last mile” technologies which…

If you were trying to come up with a list of places where wireless broadband should be deployed, you probably would not be the first one.
Wi-Fi operator, The Cloud, is definitely ahead of the game as it has just penned papers with popular tyre company, ATS Euromaster. This means that a whole array of garages will no longer be “notspots”.
The deployment will start as soon as next month (September 2012) and the access is going to be free of charge.
This is great news for those who hate flicking through…

Good news comes to Tendring, Great Bromley and Thorrington based in Essex seeing as significantly faster wireless broadband is going to land in the three parishes thanks to County Broadband.
It has been reported that the wireless broadband provider will be been able to provide speeds of up to 32Mbps. This is significant progress for the rural locations seeing as they previously saw only meagre speeds which were below even what basic broadband can offer.
County Broadband posted an update, saying that every of the three parishes will soon be able…
