Using a domestic broadband package at work? Well don’t, said the business-based division of TalkTalk, accordingly called TalkTalk Business.

A recent research conducted by the business broadband provider, showed that SMEs (small-to-medium businesses) may be losing out as much as £357m as well as 32.4 million hours which could be used for work as a result of internet downtime.

TalkTalk Business also found that some 70 per cent of SMEs were still using home broadband rather than the business option.

An additional half of small-to-medium enterprises said that they did not even know the difference between the two options.

The Transformation Director of TalkTalk Business, Andy Lockwood, reportedly said:

“Broadband connectivity is the lifeblood of any SME and impacts on virtually all aspects of its business performance.

“While being perfectly suited for all your online needs at home, domestic grade broadband is not designed to cope with the demands of running a business.”

“Businesses need to know what other connectivity options are available – such as “Annex M” – a variant of broadband which can double the uplink speed – very important for businesses communicating with its customers, through to high-speed connectivity services such as Ethernet which operates at speeds from 10Mbps to 1Gbps.”

However, it has been quickly pointed out that the reason enterprises might not know the difference between the services is because business broadband providers did not explain clearly what the perks of a business internet solution.
