Orange’s parent company, France Telecom (FT) predicts some gloom for the broadband consumer as it warns that ISPs might have to raise prices for their services.
According to the General Secretary of the FT, the UK branch of which recently joined forces with T-Mobile and formed Everything Everywhere, consumers demand for data has been increasingly sharply and thus broadband providers must upgrade their infrastructure capabilities with investments.
The Daily Telegraph reported that the number of online gamers and video streamers has grown substantially putting a tremendous amount of pressure on ISPs.
Mr Louette was reported as saying:
“If you look at what customers are doing online, they’re asking for more data and better networks.
“That means we need to invest across the industry and if people are using more of a service they will pay more for it.”
He underlined that this is not what Orange is planning to do immediately, however at some point an array of ISPs will start the trend with others undoubtedly following suit.
