Three slashes roaming rates

You might have noticed a roaming charges slashing trend. The latest mobile operator to join in and offer more budget friendly roaming in the EU is Three (3). The Euro Internet Pass option is available to the operator’s Pay Monthly customers and comes at £5 per day. This, according to Three, will help prevent that “bill-shocked” state of mind. The release did not mention any caps or restrictions but Broadbandwatcher would also like to underline that it also did not say that it was an “unlimited” service. However, Three stated that customers…

Three reveals what 3G speeds customers are getting via its network

If you are wondering what speeds you will be getting when using Three’s (3) mobile broadband services – the answer is (surprise, surprise) it depends. In more detail, according to the mobile operator, the majority should be getting anything from 1-4Mbps from their 3G service, and the better the handset as well as the more urban is the location, the faster the connection. These mobile broadband speeds are achieved through the 21Mbps capable HSPA offering, and it’s plain to see that the reality is quite far from the theoretical maximum speeds,…

We serve a 40 per cent of UK’s mobile data traffic, says Three

According to Three (3), it was serving roughly 40 per cent of “all of the UK’s mobile data traffic combined”, despite the fact that it was considered to be smallest mobile operator from UK’s big five (others include: Vodafone, O2, T-Mobile and Orange). According to the company, roughly 137Tb (terabytes) of files and data passed backwards and forwards via Three’s network, with Facebook being the biggest offender. If you are interested in numbers, try to chew through 1.24bn Facebook hits that Three sees on a monthly basis. A spokesperson for Three (3)…

4G auction could potentially be delayed

The UK Secretary of State for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, Jeremy Hunt was forced to warn mobile phone operators “to put aside competitive differences and work together” after claims were made concerning the auction of 4G mobile broadband spectrum. His remarks came after Three (3) Mobile director, David Dyson, accused mobile providers such as, Everything Everywhere (T-Mobile and Orange), O2 and Vodafone of being happy to see the auction delayed. This may be because Ofcom enabled spectrum that was reserved for calls and texts to be used for…

Rivals to try postponing 4G auction, Three suggests

Three (3) decided to put its fortune-teller hat on and predict that its rivals, for instance O2, Orange and T-Mobile’s parent, Everything Everywhere, as well as Vodafone will try to postpone Ofcom’s spectrum auction (to be used for 4G and LTE mobile broadband). In more detail, the aforementioned spectrum includes both 800MHz and 2.6GHz bands. It is worth adding that O2 and Vodafone received the permission to give their 900MHz and 1800MHz bands a new purpose – from 2G to 3G, a move after which Three (3) has been raising the…
