Broadband boost for Norfolk and Suffolk

A new service was today launched to boost broadband service in notspots across Norfolk and parts of Suffolk. ITSwisp was designed by InTouch Systems, a Norwich IT provider. This Wi-Fi technology means that homes and businesses that use it do not need a phone line because the whole system is based on radio wave transmission. This works when signals are transmitted from masts across the area to small aerials on the houses. A back-up system is in place so if one of the masts does not work, another will transmit the signal. O2 sees a fixed line subscriber base dip

It is financial results day for O2 as well. Interestingly, the ISP (which is also the parent company of Be Broadband) has reported that its fixed line (home) broadband base fell significantly by 15,800 to now stand at 602,000. Interestingly, Orange has reported that it had its subscriber base increase by 1,000 in the previous quarter. Broadbandwatcher admits, a fall was expected but perhaps not that steep.
