Orange 3G services were down last Thursday due to “configuration change”

If your mobile operator is Orange you might have noticed your services going down recently, last Thursday to be exact. In fact, it was due to a certain “configuration change”, as the operator described it. Providing you did spot the outage, Broadbandwatcher would like to ensure you that you weren’t the only one, seen as it was somewhat of a national mobile broadband (3G) blackout for the company’s customers. Interestingly, T-Mobile subscribers, who share the network with Orange, did not report even a single hiccup with the portable internet on their smartphones. However,…

Orange stopped broadband subscriber escape in Q4

Good news comes from Orange (a part of Everything Everywhere) as it has successfully plugged its fixed-line broadband subscriber leak – it has lost no customers in Q4 of 2011. This is very positive news, especially since the telecoms market is fiercely competitive. As a quick recap: back in 2007, Orange’s customers were abandoning ship at a rate of 1,142,000 in Q3 looking for services elsewhere. That number was slowly shrinking and in Q3 2011 only 3,000 customers left Orange. In the latest quarter that metric disappeared completely as the ISP…

Orange and T-Mobile to get a single name?

You might recall that Everything Everywhere is actually a merger between Orange and T-Mobile, however according to a fresh report in The Times the firms might soon become one. Like that 90s Spice Girls song. The Times has reported that redeveloping the firms into a single brand entity was “under consideration”, but no name suggestions have been revealed except the fact the new title would compliment either T-Mobile, Orange or indeed both brands. Previously, it has been claimed that EE was keen on calling it quits for Orange but the fresh…

Everything Everywhere invests £1.5bn to perfect its mobile broadband services

Everything Everywhere seems to be awfully keen on upgrading its existing mobile broadband network and get ready for the arrival of 4G (fourth-generation) services. The company, which is a joint partnership between T-Mobile and Orange, confirmed that it has invested as much as £1.5bn to perfect its network and provide faster speeds. Ofcom has severely delayed its 4G spectrum auction, however it still expects that the next generation mobile broadband services to see the light of day at some point in Q4 of 2013. In addition, as a quick reminder, Everything Everywhere…

Orange sees a subtle drop in its home broadband subscriber base

It seems that Orange (also known as a part of Everything Everywhere, the other part is T-Mobile) has reported yet another decrease, albeit not as drastic, in its home broadband subscriber base. Orange has been keen on “turning its business around”, as the aforementioned decreases have been haunting the ISP for quite a few financial quarters now, and here’s a few examples: First quarter of 2011 – 726,000 (44,000 subscribers lost); Second quarter of 2011 – 716,000 (10,000 subscribers lost); Third quarter of 2011 – 713,000 (3,000 subscribers lost). While the home…

Orange includes free parental control software into its packages

Mobile operator and broadband provider, Orange, has announced that it is now launching parental control software with some free online security thrown in as a part of the ISP’s opt in packages. Yesterday an array of broadband providers, mainly Virgin Media, Sky, BT and TalkTalk), along with the support of the government, decided to include an option to sign up for “website filtering” (in a bid to keep children away from porn) during the subscription process. According to Orange, it was the “first home broadband” provider, which…

T-Mobile and Orange kick start their big 3G switch-on

Broadbandwatcher will not surprised if T-Mobile and Orange start singing “We Are Family”, as the two get even closer with the completion of its “big 3G switch-on“. In more detail, according to the plan, the two which recently merged into Everything Everywhere (EE) will allow each other’s customers to access both 3G mobile broadband networks. This carries a significant benefit for both providers’ customers as they will have a wider coverage (aka access 3G services in more locations) at no extra cost whatsoever. Everything Everywhere’s CEO, Olaf Swantee, was reported as saying…

Rivals to try postponing 4G auction, Three suggests

Three (3) decided to put its fortune-teller hat on and predict that its rivals, for instance O2, Orange and T-Mobile’s parent, Everything Everywhere, as well as Vodafone will try to postpone Ofcom’s spectrum auction (to be used for 4G and LTE mobile broadband). In more detail, the aforementioned spectrum includes both 800MHz and 2.6GHz bands. It is worth adding that O2 and Vodafone received the permission to give their 900MHz and 1800MHz bands a new purpose – from 2G to 3G, a move after which Three (3) has been raising the…

Orange refreshes its broadband bundles and shortens contracts

Orange continues to refresh its selection of deals and broadband packages by floating away from the overly lengthy contracts (18 months) and swimming towards shorter 12 month contract terms. Virgin Media multiplatform music service to be cheaper than Spotify

It seems that keeping it legal is becoming easier by the hour as Virgin Media has announced that its Spotify-based multiplatform music service will cost customers “significantly less than” than the music company’s own Premium Package which normally costs £9.99. Neil Berkett, Virgin Media’s CEO, was talking about the up and coming service yesterday to investment analysts, and also said that the music add-on was “due to launch in the coming months”. He also discussed ways how customers could get the service revealing that it could be bundles with both Virgin…
