Plusnet to offer unlimited internet services

Plusnet will soon get rid of its monthly download limits and offer its customers unlimited broadband access. Plusnet’s home broadband packages caps downloading to a certain limit but from this week, existing and new customers on the basic deal can upgrade to an unlimited service for an extra £4 a month. As most people are using data-heavy services such as BBC iPlayer much more often, it is a smart move towards making internet connection more accessible. This new deal will please its customers and draw new ones in, in rural areas especially. This…

“Me time” has gone digital, Plusnet finds

According to Plusnet’s latest survey, which asked 3,360 UK mums about their web activities, found that almost all mothers (82 per cent) were relying on the World Wide Web to get parental tips and advice. Interestingly, roughly all mums said they were spending up to 4 hours online as a form of “time to spend on thyself”. Strange, here at Broadbandwatcher we thought “me time” was spent pampering oneself, you know, not at home. In addition, almost a half (41 per cent) shopped online on a weekly basis to save time…

Whilst some features that Centre for Future Studies has come up with for Plusnet are already out there, Broadbandwatcher thinks it’s fair to say that these can be pushed a few steps further. According to the future forecasters, the house will look more or less like this: Jamie Ford, CEO…

Vodafone leaves its At Home broadband service behind

If you were using Vodafone’s fixed-line broadband, expect to be migrated to PlusNet, as the former decided to eliminate its home internet services for good. As many of you may recall, Vodafone erased the service from its website, despite speculations that the mobile operator was looking into revamping the product. Due to lack of publicity as well as fierce competitors setting new standards by the hour, the company decided to leave its home broadband service overboard. As a quick reminder, Vodafone was offering BT-based unlimited broadband with speeds of up to 8Mbps…

Tech terms confuse a quarter of Brits, Plusnet finds

It seems that 26 per cent of us were still not too familiar with internet jargon and had no idea what “bandwidth”, “router” or “download” for that matter meant. However, what was mostly interesting was that adults aged 55 and over felt more confident with tech terminology, with 72 per cent saying they understood it all. As a contrast, only 61 per cent of 16-24 claimed to understand all the internet slang. Some of you might remember that Sky found that 25 per cent of Londoners thought that…

Plusnet raises handsome funds for Alzheimer’s Society

Throughout the past year Plusnet has been working hard to raise £5,252 for charity. Broadbandwatcher knew there was a good reason for all of those quiz nights and fancy dress events. The charity in question is Alzheimer’s Society, which Plusnet announced as the charity of choice for the time period from 2010 to 2011. Among those who helped Plusnet to raise the handsome amount of money was Roxanne Pallett, singer and actress (you might remember her from Emmerdale), who commented on the success: “It’s been fantastic to be involved with Plusnet this…
