Sky apologises for slow service

Sky has recently had to apologise to their broadband users after the recent surge of customers decreased the broadband connectivity. Sky Broadband Unlimited users are currently experiencing reduced download speeds at peak times. Some users saw their connection drop from around 14Mbps to 2Mbps in the evenings. Sky said: “Following a combination of an underlining increase in network traffic as well as an especially high rate of new customer additions, we are aware of capacity issues in a limited number of exchanges.” “We are aware of the issue and are adding new capacity to…

Pros and cons of Sky’s current bundle deal

The price of Sky’s current broadband and TV bundle is considered a ‘pro’ by Mark Jackson, the editor of the news provider. He said: “Prices for the main Sky Broadband Unlimited package start at just £7.50 to £10 a month.” A typical Sky broadband package offers download speeds of up to 14Mb, free UK weekend phone calls, a free SkyHub wireless router and free Wi-Fi hotspot access via The Cloud. Extra-fast downloads are often in demand and for that there is a Sky Fibre Unlimited package, which offers speeds of up to 38Mb. As…

Sky becomes the third biggest ISP in the UK

Great news comes from Sky Broadband today, as the ISP has cemented its place as the UK’s third biggest Internet Service Provider. In the third quarter of 2012 it added 102,000 new subscribers climbing to a fresh new total of 4.1m (of those 2.7m use Sky’s LLU unbundled service). While this might have landed the rather covetable title of the shiny number 3, the growth was not as colossal as in the previous quarters (i.e. 212,000 in the first quarter of this year, for instance). In addition, its phone services jumped…

Sky extends 6 months free broadband deal

We have some good news, we have some bad news. Let’s start with good news. Broadbandwatcher would like to underline that the promotion includes only Sky’s standard ADSL+ broadband deal, not its newest fibre offering. Also, newbies…

Virgin Media fails to make ASA see Sky’s claims as misleading

In this corner we have Virgin Media trying to ban Sky’s “totally unlimited broadband” ad … And in this corner we have Sky trying to ban Virgin Media’s TiVO ads. ASA decided to uphold Sky’s claims, yet Virgin Media did not succeed to convince the regulator that Sky was misleading the public with its ad. You might have noticed that Sky often says that it is offering “truly unlimited” services as it does not apply any FUP (Fair Usage Policy) nor does it impose any monthly usage caps. It applies the…
